VISION

A Safe Haven

A family of God where people from all walks of life belong and offer messages of hope to support one another.

BELIEFS

The Building Blocks of Our Church

Faith: We Trust in Jesus, Lord of all creation, as the source and focus of life.

Acceptance: We celebrate the diversity of humankind with unconditional love as all people are created in God's image.

Care: We commit to fully support and advocate for the wellness of others by promoting a safe and affirming environment to nurture healing, forgiveness, and reconciliation.

Service: We support local and global communities through volunteering, giving generously, and striving to relieve suffering and rectify injustice.

Growth: We strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ through, study, worship, prayer, discernment, and creative innovations.

As a United Methodist congregation, we are part of a larger church that values diversity and welcomes individuals from all walks of life. Our church has often been described as a church with a “wide umbrella,” allowing for differences of opinion on a variety levels. At the core, however, we believe in the essentials of God’s love for us, a love best revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Our denomination is grounded in a Wesleyan understanding of Christianity, which emphasizes the importance of personal and social holiness. This means we strive to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, living out our faith in ways that transform the world around us.

The West Heights United Methodist Church is a congregation located within a neighborhood, reminding us that God comes to us where we are and where we live. We are more than just a neighborhood church, however. We believe we are a church that treats one another the way we hope families treat one another. Toward that end, we are welcoming and affirming of the diversity of our neighborhood and the world around us. It is a place where we unite in the ministry of Christ, working together to share the love of God with others.

Our historical focus on the fine arts continues to be reflected in the music of our worship services, providing a rich and meaningful experience for all who attend. While the preaching at our church is Bible based, it is not limited to a literal interpretation of the scriptures. We recognize that the Bible can be understood and applied in a variety of ways, and we encourage open and respectful dialogue among our members as we seek to discern God’s will for our lives and our community.
